Tannery Film Studios: Our (extremely) local go-to production space.

We’ve already loved our time being part of the community at Tannery Business Park and see ourselves staying for a while.

Every filmmaker dreams of having film studios nearby. A studio gives a production the ultimate ability to control all elements of the space: lighting, sound, sets, the outside world. Creation in a studio not only gives a production more control, it dramatically speeds it up; often leading to the most efficient usage of a production budget.

For us, we made this a reality with our move to Tannery Business Park in Send, Woking, Surrey. Our office, being situated on the same site as Tannery Film Studios, meant we could start to cultivate a good relationship with the studio operators - Prelight Creative.

Our office serves two main functions: post-production, and equipment storage. It features a number of editing workstations, a quarter-petabyte of local RAID data storage over a 10gig network, with 2gig redundant internet connections to mirrored cloud storage. This setup means we can efficiently handle commercial video & photo projects of all sizes, including guaranteeing the safe storage of all client data for 12 months. A comfy client viewing area facilitates feedback & live review sessions of video drafts, for a collaborative and efficient post-production experience. Filmmaking requires a lot of kit - one of our strengths is having a good range in house - but this takes up a lot of space. Thankfully, we have a few square metres left over to install equipment racking, and a gear prep corner to build camera rigs in. If needed, we can pop up a colourama backdrop, and facilitate small photo & video shoots without going anywhere. We’ve found it so useful for capturing that initial spark of creativity.

It’s in Tannery Business Park, situated in the Surrey village of Send - just 10 minutes from Woking train station, which itself is only 20 minutes from London Waterloo. It’s also just off the A3, making it easy to pop into Guildford or connect to the M25. The park is cushioned by the Wey navigation canal and fields of sunflowers and horses. On site is Tannery Film Studios: featuring three studio spaces, and a separate green room. Integration into the Tannery Studio office building means access to a gorgeous neo-industrial atrium with coffee shop and breakout booths.

We love the range of looks the studios offer for both our boutique production, and social media marketing content clients. Studio One is your classic ‘white box’ or green screen infinity cove colourama. With proportions of 2000sqft and drive-in shutter doors, it’s perfect for talking heads, car shoots, e-commerce, adverts, or livestreaming. It’s even got a DMX lighting grid and separate (very striking) green room, with views over the canal. Studio Two is Tannery’s take on an ‘east London’ industrial warehouse. It’s got a kitchen, a green room mezzanine, and most importantly; 2000sqft of glorious exposed brick and untreated wooden walls. We’ve used this for e-commerce product adverts and a training video series; it’s great when you want a ‘real’ background, but with the control of a studio space. Finally, Studio Three is a small and nimble colourama studio ideal for social media content creation, e-commerce, or fashion shoots.
