Want to make videos for your YouTube channel, but aren’t happy with how they look?

I remember the studio day vividly as had just had some building issues with my new house, but once Tim & Callum got their teeth into the project my mood was instantly lifted. Our paths will cross I’m sure and will not hesitate to recommend. 5 stars isn’t enough!

Your YouTube audience demands endless content uploads, but it’d cost a fortune to get it all created professionally. What if there was a way to have a turn-key recording studio, permanently looking great; so all you have to do is sit down and hit record? That’s precisely the problem guitarist, music educator, and Bruce Springsteen tribute James Schofield came to us to help solve. We love a challenge at Lamplight, and this was right up our alley. James set us a budget of low four-figures (£) to spec & fit out his home studio for YouTube recording of guitar, & drums, plus flexible enough for in-person teaching.

The Game Plan:

Our philosophy was to make sure James didn’t have to think about technical tasks at all when inspiration struck. It needed to be set & forget. All programming was done by us during installation, so all he has to do is press the on switch, and hit record. We angled & focused the lighting and marked the spot in the room he needed to place his stool, so it was replicable to ensure continuity between videos. This also aids in building a strong digital thumbprint - viewers instantly know who’s video they are watching as soon as they see the room.

Whilst the budget was healthy for a home recording setup; professional equipment adds up, fast. How do we save money, but not compromise on quality? We used the existing Canon M50 camera he already owned, but paired it with a high-quality prime lens to get the most out of the sensor. By desk mounting the camera, wall mounting the back light, and ceiling mounting the hair light, we further minimised clutter from light stands. This made them set & forget. For lighting, we went for fixtures from Neewer, for their great price to performance. They weren’t often leaving the room, so build quality wasn’t top priority, and the quality of light they produce is more than good enough for the camera sensor used.

A recording studio can’t just look great, it’s got to sound great too. Acoustic treatment was designed and provided by friends at Summit Production Services, specialists in live audio-visual production & music recording. Aaron spec’d & created a system of wall baffles & bass traps to ensure a live but controlled sounding space.

“Tim, Callum, & Aaron helped me build a bespoke lighting setup in my new studio for my dedicated Bruce Springsteen guitar lessons Youtube channel (Bruce Guitar). Tim & Aaron  were working on a plan with myself in the months leading up to the build day, advising on what I should get, layout of the room etc etc. It was absolutely sensational from start to finish and extremely professional. The difference in my videos is 10 fold already and couldn't have done it without Lamplight Media & Summit Production Services’ incredible expertise. I remember the studio day vividly as had just had some building issues with my new house, but once the guys got their teeth into the project my mood was instantly lifted. Our paths will cross I'm sure and will not hesitate to recommend. 5 stars isn't enough!”
